Rough Draft NOT FINISHED
"I believe in being an innovator." This is a quote by Walt Disney. I also belive it is a perfect quote to describe Walt. He was one of the pioneers of cartoon animation. He was the original the one and only Walt Disney. He crafed the art of cartoon animation into what it is know known as today. He also created one of the most visted vaction places in all of the United States;Disneyland. With his hardwork and determenation he has built one of the biggest commerical cartoon companies ever.

Engaging Beginning
The turn of the 19th century lead to many great and horrific things. Such as WWI and the great depression. With all these hard things happening how could anyone make anything of their self. Well the turn of the 19th century also lead to something else important, the birth of Walt Disney. Walt is one of the most successful entrepreneurs of the 20th century. Even with all these hard things going on around him he was able to make something of himself. He even served in red cross at only the age of 16, only for a year driving an ambulance and chauffeuring Red Cross officials. There is more to Walt Disney then people think. He wasn't only a good artist with a vivid imageination. He had it all from creativaty to marketing skills. Walt Disney was truly a master of the bussiness trade.

Fourth Annotation and Fifth Annotation
This is my fourth annotation on Walt Disney. Since we are doing a documentary I decided to do another picture. http://www.justdisney.com/images/Disneyland/plans.jpg. This is the link to the picture I choose. This is a picture of Walt showing his plans for the creation of Disneyland. I think this picture is important because it shows that a lot of the architecture of Disneyland was thought up by Walt himself, instead of a professional team.
I have been using this same site a lot lately. As I have said before I will use this site frequently since it is very helpful. This whole site was made and written by Brad Aldridge Productions, Berkeley, CA. This is a primary source, which makes it very useful.
My fifth annotation on Walt Disney is the cartoon Steamboat Willie. This is the first cartoon in which Micky Mouse appeared in. This was also the first fully synchronized sound cartoon. Micky Mouse is probally the most known characters of all of Walt Disney's.
This cartoon was made in 1928 on November 18th. It premiered at the Colony Theatre in New York. This cartoon was and instant hit and people took a liking to Walt's work with cartoons. This was just the first cartoon of Mickey and many more would sure be to come.

Thesis
Walt Disney was one of the most successful enturpenure's of the 20th century. Almost everything he got invovled in he just struck gold with. From small cartoon sketches to big animated live action movies. But everything wasnt allways going good. He hit many hard times during his stride to be a cartoon artist. He often times found himself at a bankrupt bussiness or having nothing at all but the clothes on his back. Walt Diseny was a pioneer and innovator, he had one of the most creative minds of not only his time but of all time.
Third Annotation
My thrid annotation is from the same site of my second annotation. I looked around on the website and there is a lot of helpful information on it. The specific thing I was looking for this time around was an primary source, and I found some. The link to the picture is http://www.justdisney.com/images/walt_disney_photos/unedited_pics/WaltOscars.JPG.
The picture doesn't look like much, but you know the saying a picture is worth a thousand words. This is Walt after his studio won 4 academy awards. I chose to look at this picture because it shows how sucessfull his studio was.

Second Annotation
This is my second annotation on Walt Disney. The spcific thing I looked at this time was how he actually made his animation. First a story board is made and the whole film is thought up. Then the directors come together and discuss what will be in the final cut. After that the dialogue is done so the animators will now what the characters will say. The characters are then thought of and sketches are made. They put all the sketches together and choose what ones will used. Last they put all the sketches all together and add the voices, and make the final edit then it is released for public viewing.

First Annotation
For my first annotation i found a good website that has a biography of Walt Disney. The link of the site is http://www.norsknettskole.no/fag/ressurser/itstud/fuv/gunnargrodal/bio.htm. This gives me a lot of background about his life. It talks about where he grew up and when he first moved to holly wood as an inspiring artist. It also tells me about when and where he made his first cartoon, and his first big hit. It even tells me about his personal life when he got married and who was his spouse and if he had any kids. This was a secondary source but nevertheless helpful. I will start to look for primary sources since they can be very helpful with my research.
Topic Selection Post
I chose to do Walt Disney for my NHD project because I am interested in his career and rise to fame when he had to go through one of the most difficult times in American history, the Great Depression. He is important because he was a pioneer or cartoon animations and combining live action cartoons with stop animation cartoons. He is sometimes call the most significant person in art since Leonardo DaVinci.

service learning May 27-May 30
For my independent hours I worked and helped clean up a playground. It is called Barry playground, I helped clean up graffiti and cleaned the place up. I have been looking at trophy cases and it seems the wall mount ones are the most expensive. The ones that just stand up on are around 400-500 dollars. Which is still very expensive. http://www.allendisplay.com/Store-Fixtures/Modern-Series this is the link to the trophy cases i was looking at. Most of them cost a pretty penny. Even with a fundraiser i doubt we will raise enough money for it.

Service learning Thursday May 15
Service learning on thursday was very frustrating. At first Ms thompson was about to split our group into other service learning group up into other service learning groups because we were not taking it serious. She begun to break us up into different groups but then she said that we had to come up with some ideas or she really was going to break us up. We came up with very good ideas. We came up with the idea for a mural in the lobby, we also thought to build a trophy case for the debate and mock trial team.We have to research how much paint and woof would cost for the trophy case and the mural.

service learning trip
Well for service learning we took a trip to the constitution center to scout for places to plant flowers. It was hard to look for places since there were so many kids playing on the field. I think we made some progress, because at least we got to go to the place to look for a location to plant flowers. Hopefully next time we go we can make more progress to find out where to plant and what type of plats to put there.

Spanish Progress
In spanish class i am doing good at the moment. I believe my current grade is in the upper 90'. The biggest problem i am having at the moment is pronunciation of the words. On the other hand i am very good at remembering the words and nouns. Also spanish is one of my favorite classes. The main reason is because mr Todd is a very good teacher and helps me learn a lot. On top of that he gives us a lot of freedom in his class. These are the reasons why i like and why i think i am doing good in spanish class.

NHD Reflection
NHD was a new experience to me and i learned a lot from it.The most important thing i learned was how to do research and manage my time. I also learned many things about the Lenni Lenape cultures and treaties. My project focus most on their culture and their relationship with the Penn family. I dont think i would change many things next year about my NHD project, except that i would like to manage my time better. I think my final paper turned out great and i am very happy with my work. The biggest challenge I had was to find primary sources, because my topic took place over 200 years ago. Changes for next year would not really be anything. I would still like to do a paper a next year and maybe even another topic related to Indian-European relations.

Maya Angelou

Growing up in such a hard time such as the Great Depression must be rough. But be black and a women at the time could only make things worse. Well this was the early life of Maya Angelou. She went through rough times as a child and as a writer to be what she has become today, which is a role model to all little girls that are inspiring to be a writer. Because of all the hardships she went through and still became what she dreamed to be I admire her for this.
To start off let me tell you a little about her child life. Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Annie Johnson in St Louis. She was born on April 4th, 1928. Her father was Bailey Johnson and her mother was Vivian Baxter Johnson. When she was only three years old her parents got a divorce, and she went to go live with her grandmother in Arkansas. In Arkansas Maya went through a lot such as racial discrimination. It was a lot different from her home town up north then from the small town of Stamps, Arkansas. But also when don’t in Arkansas she experienced traditional African American life. At age seven she moved back in with her mom in Chicago. While she was there she was sexually molested by her mother’s boyfriend. She was too ashamed to tell any adult about it she told the news to her brother. The word got out and soon her uncle killed her attacker. After she found out her words led to the death of a man she decided not to speak ever again. Until five years later when she was living back with her grand mom in Arkansas. Her teacher Beulah Flowers encouraged her to talk again, she also got Maya into literature.
Maya Angelou has made a wide variety of books and poems. One of her most famous books is called “Why the Cage Bird Sings.” This is a book all about her childhood. It covers her first eight-teen years of life. Another one of her books is Mother A Cradle to Hold Me. This book is about how a child needs the love and affection only a mother can give. One of the books you can get that will have most of her most liked poems would be The Complete Collected Poems of Maya Angelou. Now there was a controversial poem on the internet called “Clothes”. There was a rumor spread that Maya Angelou wrote this poem. The poem stated such clothing lines as FUBU, Ecko, and timberland were racist. Maya Angelou said that she was no way connected to this poem and that she never wrote it.
Being sexual assaulted, mute for five years, and yet she has been able to be such a courageous person. Not only to have gone through those things but being able to make it through them and do all she has done is just unbelievable. She has been a very successful person and had been able to help a lot of people out with her stories and he poems. This is why I highly regard her as not only as a writer but as a person. She is living proof that no matter what we go through we can become the best we can be.
From the start of her life things look bad and as her life went on things seemed just to get worst. Unlike most people who just deiced to give up trying Maya Angelou tried to make the best of things. As her writing career started it never really stopped. She always looked on the bright side of things and tried to keep going. With her stories she has touched so many people’s lives. I now know why Oprah Winfrey looks up to her as a role model.
